"The technical element I really liked in the opening is the drone shot that they did. It was really well done and added to the cliffhanger that was necessary to be a continuation clip. Another element of the clip I liked was the closeups of the piano, especially the shot where the piano is being opened.
There was no sound in the video, this took away from the first 40 seconds. Especially since it seems like they are focusing on the playing of the piano within that. Another element is that some shots seem to hold a few seconds too long. This can be seen with the shot at 53 seconds, it seems to hold for about two seconds then it needed to.
This did look like a movie opener. This was because of the cliffhanger it was left on. Though with how sudden it was maybe it can be seen as a clip found more later in a film, overall it is a good opener.
There were a few things that made me confused in the short. Most important was what was the significant of the first 40 seconds. This is where the piano is being played. I'd imagine there is dialogue and music over it to make it make more sense but right now it is confusing. I am also confused of who was the man playing the piano and his significance.
Overall this is a really well made movie opener, there are only a few things needed to make it great. This includes the music and dialogue to make the opener make sense. Another thing is to shorten a few of the shots to make it not drag. Another thing necessary is a title sequence."
I am proud of the camera work I have done that he is complimenting here. He has a point when he is talking about the lack of sound, but our editor did not add the sound yet. We will have sound, including music. As for the confusion on who the man playing the piano is, we believe it adds to the mysterious tone of the opener and is meant to confuse you.

"I enjoyed how the mixture of inserts of the character playing the piano from different angels and the black screens helped portray a scense of mystery. The slowmotion shot of John being slowly revealed starting from his feet was also a cool addition.
The only element I would say I disliked was the fact that it was completely silent. I feel as though if they would have added some type of slowly playing music in the back that intensified more towards the end, it would have made the film so much better.(it was already good)
I would definitely say that their film looked like a movie opener and it had a really good cliffhanger. The ending being the guy sitting in his car and then it showing that there was a person behind it had me wanting to know what would happen next.
For this film, there wasn’t anything that left me confused and I think they did a really good job at keeping the plot consistent all throughout.
Other than coming up with a creative title and adding a title sequence, I would suggest adding background music. As I said before, I think that it would really elevate the whole film and make it complete."
I am glad she realized the sense of mystery we were intending to make and the different angles I took. Again we intend to add sound, it just has not been added yet. The same goes with the title sequence. I'm glad you found the opening good.

"To start off, this clip consists of low-key lighting. There are certain inserts of the piano, the actor's fingers, and tilts to the actor. All these create dramatic sequences to the clip. Furthermore, there is a tracking shot of the actor walking to his car. The mise en scene is a person wearing a dress shirt and dress pants. There is also a steady cam of the actor walking towards his car. There are furthermore lots of straight cuts. Moreover, there is a diegetic sound of the gun shot as there is an Ariel shot of the car slowly zooming out.
One thing I disliked is that they did not include an establishing shot. I was sort of confused on where this was taking place. It sort of looked like an office building but with piano inside of it. Moreover, that there was not really any dialogues as to who the character really is. Other than that, everything else was good.
Overall, I would not really say that was a movie opener. Mainly because it did not really leave on a cliff hanger. The audience knows that the antagonist harmed and possibly unalived the main character. I would suggest that ones they film the main character inside of his car, then pans to the intruder, it should just leave it off there. That would be a cliffhanger."
This review was definitely different from the others. I'm glad he acknowledged the use of technical elements to create a dramatic tone. I understand his viewpoint, but I don't see an establishing shot helping. I see what you are getting at with it not seeming to be a movie opener and I somewhat agree and will talk about that with the group.

"I thought the camera shots, specifically the closeups of the protagonist's hands and piano, as well as the tracking shots of him walking add a intense feeling to the scenes. I also particularily enjoyed the reverse zoom at 0:44. This technical element was a nice way to fully introduce what the protagonist looked like. Overall, the shot types were well thought out and positively add on to the opening scene.
I wasn't a fan of using the plain black screens as a transition in betwen scenes, like at 0:17. They felt random and left me wishing for something more intruiging to look at rather than a pitch black screen. Especially since the absence of music or audio leaves something to be desired of these cuts.
Yes, this opening scene looked like a proper movie opener. The fact that the protagonist's face was hidden until a certain point added onto the mystery and succeeded in forming a true sequence of events like it would in a real film. The ending of the opening scene where a new face appears in the shadows made me want to know what happens next.
No, I understood the general premise of the opening scene as a person leaving after playing the piano and having a mysterious figure in the back seat of their car, unbeknownst to them. The only thing I was confused on was the name of the opening scene, since there isn't one included.
I don't think any of it needs to be refilmed, simply edited. Some mysterious or ominous music would work perfectly, maybe even some classical music to tie in the piano aspect. A title sequence with an appropriate-sounding title would help to specialize the opening scene. Some of the scenes are longer than I would deem necessary, so I would cut them a little, like the scene of him taking off his tie at 1:40."
I am glad to see you understand the intense, dramatic tone of the scene. Again, music and other sounds will be added, but I understand what you are talking about with the random cuts to black. The name of the opening scene has also been added.

"Some elements I liked were their lighting and upward tilt. It helped give a mysterious mood of the man playing the piano. The tilt gave emphasis on the man and ended up revealing him at the end.
There weren't really any elements that I did not like. They could've used some sound, music, or footsteps. The silence just felt a little bit awkward.
I think their film looked like a movie opener. The intro in the beginning with the piano was slow and revealed the character. This led to the part where he walked to the car. What made me want to know what happened next was the intruder in the backseat of the car.
The only thing I'd suggest they add is some sort of sound, a title, and title sequence. These would help complete their film. Some sound makes scenes less awkward and can add feeling or meaning."
Same as the others. Happy to see that he understands the mood we intend to give. Sound will be added, including footsteps and music. The title sequence will also be added, but other than that I'm glad to see he did not have a problem with it.
